Commiserations to Andy Reid of Nottingham Forest, who has announced his retirement from professional football due to long term injuries on his 34th birthday. Andy gave great service to Cherry Orchard before joining Forest in July 1997 and a year later he was the youngest member of the Republic of Ireland team that beat Italy 2-1 in the European Championships under 16 final in Scotland.
Andy made 263 appearances during his two spells with Nottingham Forest and he also played for Tottenham Hotspur, Charlton Athletic, Sunderland, Sheffield Utd ( loan ) and Blackpool in a fine career. And he was unlucky not to have played more than 29 times - scoring four goals - for the Republic of Ireland senior international team.
We wish Andy the very best of luck for the future.
